Today is an exciting day at Octavo Systems. It is the culmination of months of hard work and at the same time the beginning of even more! Starting today you can place orders for OSD32MP1 Engineering Samples through all of our distribution partners! Also, we have released our first reference design using the OSD32MP1 SiP so you can get started on your own!
Announced at Embedded World in February to great customer interest and acclaim, the OSD32MP1 is the first and only System-in-Package Module designed to simplify the adoption of the new STM32MP1 microprocessor from ST Microelectronics. The OSD32MP1 integrates the STM32MP1 processor with DDR memory, Power Management, EEPROM, oscillators, and passives into a single 18mm X 18mm package making it the smallest module on the market. It removes the tedious parts of designing with a microprocessor allowing you to spend more time focusing on your application.
A few weeks ago we showed you that we had working devices in our lab. We have had a chance to put them through their paces and due to popular demand, we have decided to make these initial Engineering Samples available to you. Starting today you will be able to order the OSD32MP157C-512M-BAA-ES devices in small quantities from Mouser and Digi-Key. You will also be able to order larger quantities from Arrow.
As Engineering Samples these devices have been tested to make sure they function, but they haven’t been tested for long term performance and reliability. They are great to use in prototypes and proof of concepts but shouldn’t be used in a production environment. Purchasing these devices means you agree to our Engineering Samples Terms and Conditions.
We have also published an Errata associated with the Engineering Sample Devices. The Errata represents items we have found in the device that will be corrected/different in the production devices.
We will continue to produce and support Engineering Samples until we are in full production in the First Quarter of 2020. Once we release the devices to production, we will be able to provide both industrial and commercial temperature ranges as well as different memory options.
To stick with the theme of allowing you to get started on your designs, today we are also releasing our first reference design around the STM32MP1 SiP, the OSD32MP1. Functionally equivalent to the STM32MP157C-DK2 Discovery Kit the OSD32MP157C-DK2 Reference Design provides a path from proof of concept to custom PCB. The OSD32MP157C-DK2 is an exact replica of the DK2 board from STMicro, except it replaces over 100 discrete components with the OSD32MP1 SiP. This means you can get started using the low cost STM32MP157C-DK2 for proof of concept then easily transition to your own design using the OSD32MP1 System-in-Package.
We demonstrated this reference design a few weeks ago as well and are now making the design files open source. Designed in Altium, this reference design provides the fastest way to go from proof of concept to custom board while having confidence that your code will be 100% compatible.
This reference design will not be available for purchase as a stand-alone kit since its functionality is the same as the STM32MP157C-DK2. We recommend buying a STM32MP157C-DK2 and using this reference design as a starting point for your own design.
We are thrilled to see the excitement surrounding the OSD32MP1. These announcements today will allow you to get started on your next design and help get you into production faster. We are very excited to be letting these devices and designs into the wild and can’t wait to hear your feedback.
We know this is only the beginning and we will be hard at work getting everything ready for production in Q1 as well as working on our own MP1 RED board. Stay tuned!
