The Embedded World Conference in Nuremberg, Germany last week provided an opportunity for the Octavo Systems team to engage with dynamic and innovative companies from around the globe. In its 16th year, this leading exhibition for the international embedded community hosted over 32,000 engineers from 78 countries. With more than 2,000 sessions, the technical engagement level was at an all time high.
Our team met directly with hundreds of engineers and discussed the benefits of System-in-Package technology (SiP) applied to exciting new applications. SiP is making a significant impact in areas such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), where the rapid advances in data analytics & real-time manufacturing systems demand fast design cycles. The conference theme, “Embedded Goes Autonomous” created quite a buzz, revealing that automotive sensors and connectivity are another hot area of application that are suitable for the integration that SiP provides.
“Sherlock Solver”, the tweeting, Rubik’s Cube solving robot was a crowd pleasing demonstration in our booth that exemplified how our devices fit in the IIoT space. Powered by the OSD3358-512M-BAS SiP which is featured on the BeagleBone Blue, the demonstration utilizes a web cam to analyze the cube and determine the starting position. The OSD3358-512M-BAS then runs a solving algorithm that determines the moves required and manipulates it with robotic arms driven by servo motors. Finally the OSD3358-512M-BAS utilizes the WL1835 wireless module on board the Blue to tweet the solution to his twitter followers @Sherlocksolver
We heard again from customers in every region of the world, that engineering teams are getting smaller and they need to simplify and streamline their designs. They need a robust platform and roadmap on which they can build their software investment. Octavo’s System-In-Package solutions provide abstracted reusable common system blocks in an easy to use package. The common design packaged in the SiP never has to be done again. Engineering teams can spend their time on the parts of their systems that are new and differentiated bringing unique Embedded Linux Systems to market faster.

Time's up
We really enjoy getting out on the road and meeting up with customers. If we didn’t have a chance to meet you at Embedded World, please contact us.
You’ll find us next week at the Embedded Linux Conference, March 12-14, 2018 in Portland, OR. Erik Welsh, our Applications and Systems Manager will be supporting our friends at BeagleBoard.org at a table and co-presenting the talk “System-in-Package Technology: Making it Easier to Build Your Own Linux Computer” with – Jason Kridner, BeagleBoard.org co-founder. We cordially invite you to come see us in Portland.
Thanks again to everyone that came out to visit us at Embedded World 2018 this year and we are looking forward to seeing even more of you next year!
