I am building a custom board based on the OSD335x SIP reference design and I realize that the SD connector used is in its last lifecycle or obsolete probably. How do I connect an alternative connector such as the DM3BT-DSF-PEJS (Hirose) which has DAT3/CD multiplexed? More specifically what do I connect to the pin C15 and F17 pins where MMC0_CD and MMC0_DAT3 are connected respectively in the reference design?
Hello Morgan,
The SD card connector you suggested (i.e., DM3BT-DSF-PEJS) is already being used on our OSD3358-SM-RED platform. This connector does have a separate Card Detection Switch pin (it is next to pin #8). Multiplexing CD/DAT3 is optional. DM3BT-DSF-PEJS? is readily available on Digikey, Mouser, Avnet and other distributors so you shouldn’t have any supply issues.
You can find the schematics for RED platform in PDF here: https://octavosystems.com/docs/osd3358-sm-red-schematics-pdf/
Complete design files including layout and component library can be found here: octavosystems.com/…/osd3358-sm-red-eagle-files. You can use the RED design as a reference for your design. It should also help you locate the CD pin of the connector.
We have not tested CD/DAT3 card detection mechanism on any of our designs since it is optional.
You can find a discussion on CD/DAT3 card detection mechanism? and a fix to this issue on TI forum:
