Tagged: MAC
Our company is working on a design based on the OSD32MP15x SIP. This device will have an Ethernet PHY like the RED board so it can access the network.
What the best practices concerning programming the MAC address in the OTP? Is programming the MAC really necessary in a custom device or is it safe to use the randomly generated address in Debian?
I found this article on the ST wiki that explains how to use U-Boot to set the MAC address: https://wiki.st.com/stm32mpu/wiki/How_to_update_OTP_with_U-Boot#MAC_address_example
Thank you, Carlos
From a prototyping perspective, you can use the randomly generated address in Debian. However, for your production product, you will need to consult your legal department on what is required for your product to operate. We would recommend contacting the IEEE Registration Authority (https://standards.ieee.org/products-services/regauth/index.html) to better understand the requirements.
