Is USB Host Mode supported on the OSD32MP1-BRK development board?

The OSD32MP15x shows it as supported, on the Pocket Beagle the USB ID pin is broken out, but I do not see it on the OSD32MP1-BRK. Is it possible USB1 is already a Host only?

        Thanks,
        Aaron

          Aaron,

Yes, The USB pins on the header(PB29, PB30) are by default in host mode.

          Best,

          Neeraj

Hi…i think you can check the support section or its manual. Most devices that have both hardware support and a new enough OS will have the necessary drivers loaded to enable USB Host Mode, but some don’t. It is possible that you can find driver apps on the Play Store for some models that don’t have built-in drivers. Some models with 3rd party instructions and drivers available.

If I were to attach a USB port to the BRK board, would I fry anything? Where would be the best place for 5v and ground to go?

                Fury,

The USB host pins can be used to attach an external USB  host port. 5V can come in from VIN(at 5V) or another external power source. Just make sure to tie the GND pins of the external source and the board together. If you are using a computer/laptop USB port to power the board, you will have to account for the current consumption/inrush of the USB device inserted for it to work.

USB Host Power – Either VIN or External power

USB Host DM – DM pin of BRK

USB Host DP – DP pin of BRK

USB Host GND – GND for BRK + External power GND

                Best,

                Neeraj

Thanks! That’s what I figured, and that did the trick. Just wanted to double check to make sure so I didn’t release the magic smoke. I’ve been known to do that a time or two when just randomly plugging things in because it looks like they’ll fit 🙂
