      Hi

Our board is based on OSD3358-512M-BAS, actually we mount the Kingston EMMC04G-S100, everything works fine. Unfortunately the above emmc is not more available and we are planning to use the Kingston EMMC04G-M627. From the documentation it seems to be completely supported by the soc, but before to proceed I’d like to talk about that with you for confirmation.

      Thanks

      Gzazo,

Please take a look at our eMMC application note here: https://octavosystems.com/app_notes/designing-for-flexibility-around-emmc/. It described the eMMC specification that is supported. As long as the eMMC adheres to these JEDEC standards, it should work. On initial assessment, the eMMC you linked looks like it will work just fine. Note that it is an eMMC 5.0/5.1 standard and so, special care must be taken while routing the eMMC as described in the application note liked above.

      Best,

      Neeraj

In the standard emmc 4.3, the pad A6 is not connected, instead in the documents, you shared, the pad A6 is connected to VSS, this difference should be a problem?

      Thanks

      Gzazo,

Connecting A6 to VSS should not effect anything as all NC pins of the eMMC can be routed over and are physically not connected internally. RFU pins as described in the application note liked above should not be routed over.

this is still valid for the emmc 5.1? because in the reference design an emmc 5.1 has the pad a6 connected to vss, instead in the emmc 4.3 reference design the pad A6 is not connected

      Gzazo,

Yes, this is valid for eMMC v5.1.

so this means, without to change our board design an emmc 5.1 should work as is?

Yes, emmc v5.1 should work if you follow the guidelines in the app note linked above.

      Best,

      Neeraj
