2018 The Year of More for Octavo

As 2017 becomes a memory, I reflect on what we accomplished and look forward with anticipation to an exciting 2018. Join us on the roadmap to MORE.

2017

Octavo had an amazing 2017. We improved our very popular OSD335x System-In-Package (SiP) family by adding the OSD335x-SM, the smallest implementation of a TI ARM Cortex-A8 system. Integrating a powerfully 1GHz processor, DDR3, power management, EEPROM and passives all into a single 21mm X 21mm package really illustrates what is possible with SiP technology. At only 441mm^2 the OSD335x-SM is 60% smaller than the smallest possible equivalent system built with individual components.

The OSD335x-SM also made designing systems around it much easier by implementing a pin map that allows all of the signals to be escaped in the single layer. This innovation saves significant design time, reduces the cost of printed circuit boards, and allows for lower cost manufacturing.

We also produced our first development board, the OSD3358-SM-RED. The OSD3358-SM-RED was built from the ground up to demonstrate ease of design with SiP technology as well as provide a platform for developers to easily create their own products. The demand for these boards is amazing. We quickly sold out of our initial production run and are expediting more to meet the demand.

2018 and Beyond

What does the future hold for Octavo? If I had to sum it up in a single word it would be “MORE”. More products, more integration options, more reference designs, more app notes, more shows, more customers and more things to help make your job of creating the next big thing easier!

More Products with More Options

The OSD335x family of System-in-Package devices provides us a solid foundation to build from. Integrating a processor, memory, power management, and passives into the single package covers a significant piece of what embedded systems require. However, this isn’t everything that makes up embedded systems. In 2018 look for new SiP devices built around the AM335x with even more system blocks integrated into them.

In fact, we would love to hear what you would like to see integrated along side the AM335x in the OSD335x. If you have an idea of something we should include head over to our forums and let us know!

And as we engage more customers, you might just see a new family of products built around another processor. If you have a favorite processor you would like us to consider, please let us know that as well.

More Reference Designs and App Notes

Our mission is to make your job easier. We are quadrupling our efforts this year to create even more reference designs and app notes. We are focusing on creating content that will help speed you through the design process. We are currently targeting application areas well suited for the OSD335x as our reference designs. Tell us yours!

We are developing app notes around the most frequent questions we have received. As always, our goal is to make designing with our devices the easiest part of your job.

If there is a reference design, you would like to see us tackle or an application question that has been bothering you please let us know! We will add it to our list.

More Shows and More Customers

One of the best parts of 2017 for me was getting out to the Embedded Systems Conferences in Boston and San Jose. We met many of our existing customers and engaged many new companies.

For 2018 we are excited to kick off our show schedule by attending Embedded World in Nuremburg, Germany from Feb 27th through March 1st. This is the largest show dedicated to designing embedded systems in the world. We can’t wait to meet our customers in Europe as well as educate others on SiP technology and how it can help them make smaller, more reliable systems faster and at a lower cost. If you will be attending embedded world and want to meet-up please contact us!

We are planning on attending other shows as well, so stay tuned for as the schedule develops.

More of Making Things Easier

At Octavo, you are our number one priority. We strive to make it easy to create the most complex, groundbreaking designs. In 2018 we continue to focus on ways to simplify the task of designing embedded systems. We are look forward to a very busy 2018 serving you.
